We love stories and what a story is this one. This Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu came of the assembly line in the GM factory in Antwerp (!) and was delivered in July 1965 to the first and only owner, until now.

Our customer could buy the car after the first owner sadly passed away. Funny fact is that the car will reside at less than 5 kilometers of the GM factory in Antwerp, in a neighborhood where a good deal GM-employees used to live.

The car is in a reasonable condition, it looks like it has only superficial rust and a good washing and shining will make a great difference. Of course, it needed more to get it back on the road.

Engine

The engine was removed and dismantled for 60 to 70 %. Enough anyway to be able to check, clean and grease all parts of the engine. After 37 years of storage this is more than a nice to have, it is absolutely necessary. This is the correct approach when you want to get the engine running after so many years, if you want to avoid major damage that is.

Fuel system

The fuel system was completely overhauled and the carburetor revised. The system wears over time, which can cause problems when you start up the engine. A leak in the system can lead to a fire in the car.

Brakes

The brake system was overhauled as well, it is all well to drive around in your car but being able to stop is even more important. Rust in the braking system, leaks, … make that you better change the whole system.

General

  • Change liquids
  • Change oil & air filter
  • New spark plugs
  • Address rust issues
  • Global check

And the result ? The owner drives his Chevelle around with a big smile on his face. The car received the MOT check without any remark. Carefree on the road until June 2027 !

Procedure for engine restart

Turn around the engine manually, and then start the engine without ignition. Check in the following sequence:

  1. Oil pressure
  2. Compression
  3. Ignition
  4. Fuel supply
  5. Cooling (once engine is running)
